East of Canton, Mississippi

Tomorrow we will cross the Pearl River into Canton. The raid has been a success in no small part because my intentions were hidden from the enemy. There were no reporters to spy on my plans and our movement. I made several feints so the enemy did not know if we were going to Meridian or Mobile. Our troops moved so quickly the enemy had no time to gather troops from other quarters. Mississippi is a shell with porous defense. The enemy lacks the troops to defend their territory if we move in coordinated efforts. The destruction of their roads will make it difficult for them to move or supply their armies.
