Meridian, Mississippi

The enemy evacuated Meridian. Hurlbut’s division occupies the town and we have set up camp for tonight. McPherson is here and he will have a brigade guard his trains until they are brought in. Lee’s cavalry is to the South, apparently awaiting an opportunity to attack the trains.
