West of Meridian, Mississippi

We have pushed the enemy into Meridian and there is yet no resistance. Every indication is the enemy has abandoned the town. Still no word from General Smith’s cavalry.

It was learned that one of the men of Decatur took part in an attack on our trains. His house was burned as punishment.
