Iuka, Mississippi

Forrest’s Cavalry has been harassing General Osterhaus as he moves along the railroad.  So far, we have held him in check.  Since my new orders came to hurry to Chattanooga, we have quit all repairs on the railroad to Memphis.  I have sent the proper orders to McPherson at Vicksburg and Hurlbut at Memphis to carry on while I am out of contact.   It will  be a rugged journey.
