Iuka, Mississippi

I have had a pretty bad cold for the past two days and am delayed here by bad breaks on the Railroad ahead.   An army must be fed and railroads are needed.  They are vulnerable to attack and nearly impossible to defend along their length.

The Tennessee River is swollen and a number of bridges have been destroyed by the enemy.   I expect all sorts of trouble in getting over the river.  Useless Boats are sent up the Tennessee that are not suitable transports.  From here the march will be more rugged and difficult.
