Iuka, Mississippi

There is a very bad break in the railroad ahead that will take longer than I anticipated to repair.  We have repulsed the cavalry attacks to our front.  I have very little cavalry and most of the enemy cavalry of the Southwest is here.  I expect that they will try to attack and break the railroad.  My orders are to repair the railroad to Tuscumbia, Alabama for supplies to Rosecrans’ Army.   It will take time to repair the railroad and it is vulnerable to damage by attacks.
