Walnut Hills, Near Vicksburg, Mississippi

We continue to send shells into Vicksburg day and night. My trenches are so close to the fortifications that men can throw grenades at each other. No one dares lift their head above the trench for it would immediately be shot off. Our army is well fed here. There are some rumors that Vicksburg is starving, but I don’t think they are yet. The position is so strongly defended we will likely have to starve them out.
